3 level town house on a 73m2 footprint in a developing industrial area of North Melbourne.
Due to the narrow 4.2m width of the site we emphasised the volume by creating a central entry with a 3 storey void which split the floor plate. The first two levels are occupied by 3 bedrooms, with associated services, and off street parking; the open plan living area is located on the third level, which leads to a North facing roof terrace.
The industrial context of the home drove the ‘tough’ architectural form and expression. Our clients’ business is concrete: informing the primary material which is expressed internally through the use of insulated sandwich type panels. Decorative metal screening and ‘warehouse style’ windows complete the industrial fenestration treatment.
ESD principles such as maximising cross ventilation, shading, promotion of stack effect, solar access and rainwater harvesting are employed throughout.
